The Jewish community of Wilmington, with representatives of every element present, tonight paid tribute to David Snellenburg, regarded as one of the outstanding figures in communal fund-raising not merely in this community, but throughout the United States. Various local leaders and Isidore Coons, national director of the United Jewish Appeal, pointed out that Mr. Snellenburg has been the key figure in every Jewish fund-raising project this city has known for almost two decades. In 1918 he led the first non-sectarian campaign for Jewish war relief. The idea that he originated then spread throughout the United States.
Mr. Snellenburg has been chairman of every Joint Distribution Committee and United Jewish Appeal campaign held in Wilmington. This year, too, he is the principal officer of the United Jewish Appeal in this city. He is also a national vice-chairman of the United Jewish Appeal.
