Queen Wilhelmina today rejected a petition urging that “schechita,” the Jewish method of slaughtering animals, be prohibited in Holland. A similar petition was also rejected by the Dutch Foreign Minister, A. C. de Graeff.

The petitions were submitted by prominent members of the Dutch Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The Dutch government was urged to place a resolution before the League of Nations calling for international regulation of slaughtering methods.

In rejecting the petition, the Dutch Foreign Minister declared that he could not undertake anything of this nature.
