“Victims of their parents’ misdirection”— that is how young Jewish college graduates and undergraduates are described by Prof. Selig Perlman in an interview in the June issue of the B’nai B’rith Magazine.
They have been lulled to a sense of security by the prosperity era in which they were reared, says Prof. Perlman, who teaches labor problems at the University of Wisconsin. Launching their careers in a world economically unable to absorb them, they become disillusioned and frequently drift toward communism.
“There should be more conscious group planning and an about face toward new economic lines of endeavor, such as manual labor and farming,” the professor recommends. “It should be understood that the Jewish community is, in itself, unable to support Jewish professional men.”
