A verdict issued by the Czechoslovakian court today ordered the Jewish community of the town of Ungvar to hand over the collection of the Jewish community taxes to a Praha building firm, to which the community owes 258,000 kronen.
All the possessions of the Jewish community were recently attached by the company in payment of the debt, which was incurred during prosperous times when it planned an increase in the communal activities.
The depression and the decline in the income of the community forced it to default in its payments.
The default resulted in the company’s taking over all the assets of the Jewish community and it will now collect all the taxes due the community to cover the amount still in arrears.
