Rioting broke out last night in the Jewish quarter here, resulting in injuries to dozen of Jews and Greeks.
The riots followed an altercation between a Jew and a Greek. The quarrel led to extensive street fighting which developed into excesses.
Seven Greeks and three Jews were arrested as a result of the outbreak. Order was restored by the police, who patroled the Jewish quarter all night in order to prevent a recurrence of the outbreak.
PROPAGANDA CONTINUES
Despite the fact that the anti-Semitic press is not permitted to appear in Greece since the Venizelos revolution, anti-Jewish propaganda is still continued in the country. This propaganda found particular expression during the election campaign to the Greek Parliament last week.
Two Jews were elected to the Greek Parliament on the Government Party list, which was supported by the entire Jewish population. The fact that the Jews are supporting ### was utilized by the anti-Semitic agitators for anti-Jewish propaganda during the elections.
With the Government Party gaining 285 seats of the 300 in the Parliament at the election last Sunday, the Jewish population feels confident that any attempt at anti-Jewish outbreaks will be crushed.
Premier Panayoti Tsaldaris as well as all the other members of the Cabinet are known for their friendly attitude towards the Jews.
