S. Raphaely was elected president of the South African Board of Jewish Deputies at the closing session of its eleventh annual congress here. Resolutions were adopted initiating a campaign against anti-Semitic propaganda and calling on Parliament to take action to prevent racial strife.
The text of the resolutions follows:
“This congress, being fully alive to the direful effects both upon the Jewish community and upon the South African nation of the unfounded and slanderous anti-Jewish propaganda now being carried on throughout the country, resolves that a vigorous campaign to counteract this propaganda and to enlighten and educate public opinion be embarked upon and that a propaganda committee be appointed to collect and coordinate the necessary information and to direct the campaign.
“In the opinion of this congress, the time has arrived for the government and Parliament to take such action as may be necessary to prevent the dissemination of propaganda calculated to create racial strife between the white races of South Africa, and that this resolution be sent to all concerned.”
