The mixing process which is characteristic of the growth of the Jewish population in Palestine, is well illustrated in the rural settlement of Gevat, in the Emek Jezreel. The bulk of the settlers are from Pinsk, formerly Russia. Some months ago a party of pioneers from South Africa, who had been trained there in agriculture, arrived and joined Gevat. They have mingled well, though they are the first organized group of settlers from South Africa, and despite their very different upbringing.
This month another group of thirteen Jews came from Germany to Gevat, assisted by the department for settling German Jews. They are studying Hebrew and local conditions, until they become aclimatised.
