Twelve Tel Aviv motorcyclists who have been touring the world as representatives of the Palestine Maccabi Association, will leave here for London Thursday.
Arriving in New York last Wednesday, the youths were received by Aldermanic President Bernard S. Deutsch who greeted them in behalf of the city. Previously, they had visited Atlantic City and the reception given them there completely halted the deliberations of the delegates to the Zionist convention.
The cyclists, tanned and hardened by their trip, told a Jewish Daily Bulletin representative that they had covered 14,000 miles by cycle since they left Tel Aviv last April. Their travels took them across the Egyptian desert to Alexandria. From there they sailed to Italy, traveled through Europe and finally sailed for Montreal where they began the last leg of their tour.
They covered Canada and entered the United States by way of Detroit. Once in this country, they spanned the continent, motoring to San Francisco and then east to New York.
Joseph Tamari and Zelig Reicher, leaders of the group, said that the purpose of the trip is to stimulate interest in the 1938 Maccabiah, or Jewish Olympics. They reported great success, especially in Canada where, they said, many Jewish communities had promised to organize Maccabi sports clubs.
After arriving in London, the cyclists intend to tour the Balkans and return to Palestine via Persia and Syria.
