The charge that immigration officers in Palestine are biased against Jewish immigrants was made in the House of Commons today by Col. Josiah Wedgwood, Laborite member of the British Parliament.
“The first question an immigrant is asked by the immigration inspectors in Palestine is ‘Are you a Jew?’,” Col. Wedgwood said.
His allegations were supported by Sir Arhtur Wilson, who demanded a more generous attitude on the part of the authorities in Palestine toward Jewish immigrants who are victims of Nazi persecutions.
Replying on behalf of the Government, Captain E. Wallace denied the assertions by Col. Wedgwood. He defended the existing restrictions for immigrants in Palestine.
Numerous questions with regard to the condition of the railways in Palestine were discussed today in Commons. During the debate it was emphasized that the Palestine Railways are still operating at a deficit despite the fact that other services run by the Palestine government are enjoying a great surplus.
