Rioting between Jews and Christians broke out in Sidi Bel Abbes yesterday when Jews tore down anti-Semitic posters that had been placarded all over the town on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The day marked the anniversary of the anti-Jewish riots of a year ago, during which scores were killed and many were wounded.

Several skirmishes took place in various parts of the town, natives joining the Christians against the Jews.

The police had a difficult time in restoring order, but finally brought the situation under control. An official proclamation was issued today warning that in event of further trouble the Foreign Legion will be called in.
