In connection with the Italo-Ethiopian war, Germany has suddenly begun to show a marked interest in the situation in Palestine.
Reports based on the Arab press appear in today’s German newspapers, which feature cabled dispatches from Jerusalem alleging that the Palestine government has instituted a strict watch over the relations between Palestine Arabs and the Italian consulates.
The papers also report that Ragheb Bey Nashashibi, former mayor of Jerusalem and leader of a strongly nationalist Arab party, today issued a call to all Arab parties in Palestine, Transjorden and Syria for an understanding that would enable them to utilize the present international situation to achieve Arab independence.
Nashashibi, the German papers report, also urged the calling of an Arab congress to create a united Arab front.
The Deutsche Nachrichten Bureau, German news service, today states that twenty British war ships are now anchored at Akaba. Another report states that Italian steamers are subjected to strict control when docking and clearing at Haifa harbor, and also at Jaffa and Akaba.
