Methods of utilizing the Olympics to the best advantage of the Third Reich were discussed here yesterday at a conference between the executive body for Olympics arrangements and leading wholesale and retail merchants.
Jewish merchants were completely excluded from the conference and from all plans for profiting from the anticipated presence in Berlin of thousands of foreign sportsmen and spectators.
The conference discussed in detail how best to improve Germany’s commercial and economic position in all fields, particularly in exports.
Dr. Lorenz, president of the German Olympics executive body and one of the leading figures in the Berlin Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was one of the principal speakers.
All speakers emphasized the fact that Germany lays the greatest hopes on the economic perspectives which the games may open.
It was disclosed at the conference that a special commercial exhibition, under the name “New Germany,” will be held simultaneously; with the Olympics. Jewish firms are usually denied the right to participate in such exhibitions, especially when they are supposed to reflect the spirit of the Third Reich.
Speakers at the meeting requested representatives of retail firms to pay greater attention to decorating their show windows and to create displays that will make them most attractive to foreigners.
New light was thrown this week on the Nuremberg laws affecting marriage by the decision of a Cologne court extending the meaning of the laws to forbid not only intimate relations of Jews with “Aryan” women but relations between “Aryans” and Jewish women.
In one case a former high official of the Nazi Party was tried for “Rassenschande” (race defilement) and acquitted only after testifying that he had severed relations with the Jewish girl in question after the Nuremberg laws were promulgated Sept. 15.
The defendant had been warned by the party in 1933 to discontinue his relationship with the Jewess, but ignored the warning. He was subsequently expelled from the party.
In the other case, reported by the Westdeutscher Beobachter, a nine-months prison sentence was imposed upon an “Aryan” on the same charge — intimate relations with a Jewess.
The Nuremberg laws, as enacted, only forbid intimate relationship between Jews and “Aryan” women since their intent is to ### the purity of German blood, not Jewish blood.

Complete elimination of Jewish lawyers from practice of their profession, as provided by the Nuremberg laws, will be announced Friday by Dr. Frank, Reich Minister without Portfolio, it was indicated today in the Voelkischer Beobachter, official organ of the Nazi party.
Students of all universities are requested to enter a nation-wide essay contest on the subject. “The Jewish Influence in Science and Art,” it is reported by the Berlin Tageblatt.
Government authorities yesterday confiscated the latest issue of the Juedische Rundschau, German Zionist organ, giving no reason for the action.
For expressing the opinion that Albert Hirschland, a Magdeburg Jew, might have been innocent of the Rassenschande (race defilement) charges of which he was convicted, an “Aryan” in that city was sentenced to a prison term of three months, the German press reported.
The “Aryan” voiced the opinion in a discussion in a cafe with a Nazi storm troop leader. He was convicted of having insulted the swastika by casting doubt on German justice, according to the newspaper accounts.
