The Denver City Council by a vote of 8 to 1 today adopted a strongly worded resolution protesting against American participation in the 1936 Berlin Olympic games.
The resolution read:
“We are aghast and we cannot without protest countenance the prospect of the sullying of American athletic traditions by cooperation amid surroundings where athletes are discriminated against on the basis of race or creed.
“We feel that to participate in such an atmosphere would be a prostitution of American athletic traditions, which recognize honest athletic skill regardless of color, race religion or politics.”
The resolution was introduced by Councilmen Harrington and Rosenthal.
