More than 8,000 passports held by Jews of Bavaria have been invalidated by the political police of that province for use in foreign travel, it was reliably learned here today.
The passports, after seizure by the police, were returned with the explanation that the travel permits had been cancelled and that if the holders wished to abroad they would be obliged to deposit a “flight tax” which would be forfeited if they failed to return by a specified date.
Passport seizures were heaviest in Munich and Wuerzbuerg. It is believed most of those whose passports were taken up are Jewish business men who had been planning, under Nazi pressure, to sell their enterprises to “Aryans.”
