The last two volumes of the first modern Yiddish translation of the Bible, prepared by Yehoash, late Yiddish poet and scholar, will come off the press during the first week in February, it was announced today by the Yehoash Committee. There are eight volumes in all, which took 20 years to prepare.
In connection with the publication, the committee comprising 78 prominent Jewish writers and scholars, has asked Jewish communities throughout the country to hold celebrations. An affair will be held in New York shortly.
The committee also plans to publish two volumes of commentary by Yehoash on the Bible. The poet, whose real name was Solomon Blumgarden died in New York in 1927. The first volumes of the translation were published by the Yehoash publications Company with the aid of the Hebrew publishing Company in 1928.
