Dr. Mordecai Eliash, noted Jewish attorney, who was stabbed in the throat and abdomen while walking in the center of the city yesterday, said today at Hadassah Hospital that his assailants were Jews. It appeared that there were no political motives behind the stabbing.
Improvement was noted today in the condition of Dr. Eliash. His condition was earlier reported as serious but hopes were held out for his recovery.
At Hadassah Hospital, where Dr. Eliash is confined, it was said that the dagger with which he was stabbed barely missed his lung. It was established today that the assault was carried out by two unidentified persons dressed in European-style clothing.
The attorney was a witness before the Shaw Commission sent by the British Government in December, 1929, to investigate Arab riots against the Jews. Later, he appeared as counsel for the Jew before a League of Nations commission arbitrating a dispute with the Arabs over respective rights at the Wailing Wall.
