Al Liwaa, Arab daily, reported today that High Commissioner Sir Arthur Grenfell Wauchope expressed himself as “sorry” he could not obtain from the Colonial Office the fulfillment of Arab demands.
He was quoted as having told a delegation of Arab leaders, who called to protest that the Colonial Office had not met demands for stepping Jewish immigration:
“Sorry, this is all I could get from the Colonial Office after great efforts.”
The Colonial Office reply to the Arab memorandum rejected the demand for halting Jewish immigration, said the demand for democracy was answered by the announcement of a legislative council and met demands for restriction on sale of Arab lands by stating that the Government was preparing curbs.
Full accord on all Arab political policies has been reached between the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and former Mayor Ragheb Bey Nashashibi, it is reported in the Arab newspapers. Two of outstanding Arab leaders, they have long held divergent views on many vital issues.
