Paraguay has liberalized its immigration regulations to permit Jews who are not farmers to enter the country provided that they possess fifty gold pesos, it was announced today by the HIAS.
Previously only farmers were permitted to enter. Intervention by the HIAS-ICA (HICEM) brought about the change. Since commerce and industry are not fully developed, the announcement said, immigrants who are able to manufacture their own products will be given preference. Carpenters, shoemakers, tailers, knitters and persons similarly occupied can earn livings by opening small workshops in their homes.
