The Government today began an extensive check-up of lands owned by Jews and by Arabs before promulgating a law restricting sale of Arabs’ lands.
Dr. Chaim Weizmann, president of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, prepared to leave for Europe to hold conferences with Jewish leaders in connection with the curbs. He has expressed to High Commissioner Sir Arthur Wauchope the opposition of the Jews to the restrictions.
Before sailing for Europe, Dr. Weizmann spent the day holding conferences with various Jewish groups here in an effort to arrive at a unified policy.
The avowed aim of the contemplated restrictions is to retain for the Arabs land sufficient for subsistance. They would be prohibited to sell lands unless they kept a certain minimum.
