A delegation of Jewish Parliament deputies declared to Minister of Public Worship and Religion Swietoslawski today that a proposed law to ban Jewish orthodox slaughtering of animals would imperil the rights of the 3,000,000 Polish Jews.
Mr. Swietoslawski promised to study carefully the bill and relevant material. The 1,800 rabbis of Poland are meeting Thursday to draw up a protest against the bill, which would violate the Jewish ritual code by enforcing stunning of animals before slaughter. A world-wide fast has been called for the same day.
The deputies also complained of recent anti-Semitic disorders in universities, demanding that Jewish students be permitted to study without interference. Mr. Swietoslawski replied that this “painful affair” would soon be settled.
