Jewish orphans were evicted from their home when the German authorities took over the orphanage at Diez-am-der-Lahn under a lease despite attempts of German Jewish leaders to intervene.

The home, which had the reputation of being one of the best in Germany, was closed by the authorities in the face of Jewish protests and permission to reopen it was refused.

The Nazi secret State police, Gestapo, also closed the children’s home at Misdroy and a number of Jewish children’s colonies in the Schwarzwald and other parts of the country.
