Discovery of a synagogue and private houses of the late Roman period in the Syrian village of Nava, corresponding to the ancient Jewish city of Nave, has been reported by Prof. A.L. Meyer and Dr. A. Reifenberg of the Hebrew University.
They said many of the houses are decorated with Jewish symbols and a number of copies of the menorah, were also found. The univer- sity has opened negotiations with the Syrian Government’s department of antiquities for a thorough investigation of the village.
Nave is referred to in Talmudic literature and in writings on Christianity.
