Only Government officials, the Jewish Agency for Palestine and some of the larger banks were permitted today to use the international telephone system as a result of yesterday’s order barring the wires to all except these with special permission.
Newspaper and news service correspondents were not given the necessary permission.
As a result they have had to file their stories on the Palestine disorders through the usual cable route, which has made them subject to censorship and considerable delay.
Telephone to Cairo and direct to London was resorted to by correspondents when it was discovered that the first reports of the disorders had been subjected to delays of from seven to twelve hours by censorship of cables.
The Archive of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency includes articles published from 1923 to 2008. Archive stories reflect the journalistic standards and practices of the time they were published.
