One Jew was killed and a British soldier, two Jews and at least two Arabs were wounded today as disorders against the Government and the Jews entered their thirteenth week with no abatement in sight.
Adam Lipkin, 31, a native Palestinian Jew, was accidentally killed by the revolver of a British soldier. He was employed at the Lydda railway station. He left a widow and children. An official communique said the soldier was arrested.
A prominent Jewish merchant, Itzchak Cohen, was shot in both legs at close range in the first daylight attack to occur in the New City quarter of Jerusalem. None was apprehended.
A British soldier was wounded when Arabs fired on a military patrol at Nablus. A special Jewish policeman, Dov Deiter, was accidentally wounded near Motza and removed to Hadassah hospital in Jerusalem.
An Arab, about to throw a bomb in Jaffa, lost both his hands when it exploded prematurely. Another bomb was found in his possession.
An official communique said police searching an Arab encampment near Ekron were fired on. They replied, wounding and arresting an Arab in whose possession a rifle and ammunition were found.
A military patrol, heavily fired on near Lydda, replied and searched the house from which the shooting had been done. They found a quantity of ammunition and arrested four Arabs. It was established that the Arabs suffered some casualties.
Police investigating the theft of a herd of cattle near Migdal were fired on by a band of thirty Arabs, the communique said. They replied and called for reinforcements. The area was searched, but the attackers escaped.
Sporadic shooting occurred at Jewish settlements in the Valley of Jezreel and Tiberias area. No casualties were reported among settlers and police.
A police patrol was fired on near Safed, a communique said. The police replied, inflicting several casualties. A military patrol near the village of Salfit was fired on. When it replied, the Arabs retreated, leaving arms and ammunition.
YESTERDAY’S DEVELOPMENTS
Zichron Jacob, Jewish colony founded in 1882 by Rumanians which has been the target of innumerable Arab attacks since April 19, was again attacked yesterday by snipers who ambushed a group of watchmen in the vineyards, seriously wounding one.
A Jewish factory on the Tel Aviv boundary was burned to the ground.
About 1,300 trees were uprooted in an Arab-owned grove at the village of Al Kubeiba, near Jerusalem. Nine Arabs were arrested on suspicion of the sabotage.
Eight Arabs were arrested near Naana Ekron for possessing arms. Three others were seized at Haifa on suspicion of arson. All the arrested Arabs face heavy prison terms under the emergency regulations invoked during the disorders.
A quantity of dynamite was discovered by police in an Arab garden at Al Zib. Four bombs exploded without doing damage at Jaffa.
