There have been 33 casualties among British and colonial troops so far this year, all of them in Palestine, Alfred Duff-Cooper told the House of Commons today in reply to a query by W. Gallacher, Communist member.
He made no reply to a further question on whether British soldiers as well as Arabs and Jews are being sacrificed “to maintain British power in Palestine.”
Unofficial estimates place the number of British soldiers killed during the disorders at seven, including one killed this morning when a lorry he was riding in overturned on the way back from a battle with Arabs near Safed. More than forty Jews and upwards of a hundred Arabs have lost their lives since the disorders began on April 19.
