Congressman William Sirovich of New York announced today that Louis B. Mayer, head of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios, had agreed to become temporary chairman of a nonsectarian committee to direct proposed settlement of 100,000 to 200,000 Jews from European countries, mainly from Germany, in Cuba. A fund-raising campaign is contemplated.

According to Mr. Sirovich, the Cuban Cabinet is considering the project. After an interview in Havana last week with President Gomez, the congressman said the latter was “enormously interested” in the plan.
