Rabbi Stephen S. Wise today denied reports from Warsaw that the opening of the World Jewish Congress in Geneva might be delayed from August 8 to August 26 to permit election of Polish delegates.
Expressing surprise at such reports, Rabbi Wise declared:
“My visit in London and Poland convinces me more than ever that the Congress is imperative and cannot be delayed. It will definitely open in Geneva on August 8.”
He said a meeting of the executive would be held August 5.
The Warsaw report had said that the executive at Geneva, in answer to a request for postponement by the Polish congress committee necessitated by a delay in the election of delegates, had agreed “in principle” to defer the opening session provided technical arrangements permitted.
Rabbi Wise returned from Warsaw today and plans to leave Sunday for Geneva.
