Bumper Crops Harvested in Jewish Regions of Russia

Bumper crops in the Jewish national regions of the Crimea and the Ukraine are reported. The harvest in the Stalindorf region of the Ukraine was two and a half times bigger than last year’s, with an even better crop reported in Kalindorf.

Special tents have been erected for Jewish workers harvesting crops in the Larindorf region of the Crimea, since they spend most of their time in the fields.

Meanwhile, 187 specialists in various fields have been sent to the Jewish autonomous region of Biro-Bidjan in the first six months of 1935, according to a statement by the Comzet, Government organization for settling Jews on land.

They include 49 Communist Party and administrative experts, 18 engineers, 1 geologist, 24 bookkeepers, 11 economists, 13 physicians, 19 agricultural experts, 4 lawyers, 7 post office officials, 17 teachers, 2 electrical technicians, 1 ex-ray expert and 1 musician.

During the third quarter of this year, 160 families are expected to be settled in collective farms of Biro-Bidjan, including 100 families from the Ukraine, 40 from White Russia, 10 from the Western Region and 10 from Baku.

In addition, 70 Ukrainian and 30 White Russian students will be sent to the region’s Mining Institute, as well as 90 students to be sent to the Pedagogic Technicum. A hundred and twenty teachers will arrive in Biro-Bidjan during the present quarter.
