The United Press reports from Berlin today that German Jews fear a new drive against them to be climaxed by outright seizure of their real estate after the annual Nazi party convention at Nuremberg.
“Jews remember the convention’s record,” says the United Press, “on Jewish legislation. Accordingly many Jews are declining to improve real property and some even hesitate to renew leases so as to keep their assets in liquid form.
“For months, some Jews have foreseen a resurgence of the war upon them after the Olympics. They are even more disquieted because during the games there was no sign of the expected attempt by Nazi powers to hide German anti-Semitism.
“Julius Streicher, the most bitter enemy of Jews among Nazi chieftains, almost haunted Adolf Hitler’s box at the games–to a point where it seemed Hitler was exhibiting Streicher purposely as a defiance of foreign opinion. Streicher’s anti-Jewish newspaper Stuermer appeared regularly.
“One rumor which is alarming Jews is that all Jewish-owned real estate acquired since the outbreak of the World War would be declared forfeited to the state as the fruit of war profiteering.
“Nazis say privately that the plank in their platform calling for confiscation of war profits is impossible of realization at this late time. But in the case of Jews difficulties might easily be overlooked.”
