The impending visit to this port of Sir Samuel Hoare, First Lord of the Admiralty, was awaited here today with keen anticipation.
Sir Samuel left Malta Tuesday on the cruiser “Galatea” on a tour of Mediterranean naval fortifications. His visit has revived reports that the British government is planning to make this port the chief British naval base in the Mediterranean.
