Efforts to secure the release of Dr. Franz Meyer and Benno Cohen, Zionist leaders who were arrested by the Gestapo (State secret police) on Sept. 24, had been unavailing tonight.
With no reason for their detention yet revealed, the two were still being held incommunicado in Gestapo headquarters in the Alexanderplatz, although an ordinance limits detention without filing of charges to eight days.
Dr. Meyer is executive head of the German Zionist Federation and Mr. Cohen a member of the executive. They were arrested during the same week as Rabbis Max Nussbaum and Emil Cohen, both of whom have been released.
