Dr. Moses Gaster, retired chief rabbi of the Spanish and Portuguese Jewish community, veteran Zionist leader and one of the Jews’ most noted scholars, was honored on his eightieth birthday at a reception here last night.
Sir Herbert Samuel, former High Commissioner of Palestine, was among those present. Dr. Gaster was presented with an anniversary volume, “Orient and Occident,” a collection of Semitic literature and studies in philology.
