Reports that the Jewish community of Warsaw, the largest in Europe, would lose its autonomy through replacement of the communal council by a Government-nominated commissar have been confirmed in a semi-official statement which says that the council will be dissolved because it constantly acted on matters “beyond its competence.”
Jewish newspapers were officially warned not to criticize the forthcoming appointment of a commissar and a number of them were confiscated for printing reports and articles on the question.
