Expansion of Junior Hadassah work in America and Palestine was urged today by Mildred F. Murnick, of Philadelphia, national president, as the first session of its four day thirteenth annual convention got under way with 1,000 delegates from 40 states attending.
She said the organization had succeeded in meeting all commitments to Palestine last year, adding: “That we have decided to accept the challenge to Jewish rights in Palestine and are already making plans for the enlargement of Moier Shfoyah (Junior Hadassah’s children’s home at Tel Aviv) gives the answer to the whole world.” She also urged expansion of the Henrietta Szold Nursing School.
Shulamith Schwartz, former president of Junior Hadassah, who has been teaching in Palestine, drew a parallel between the Irish struggle for freedom and the Zionist movement. Rabbi Isadore Breslaw, president of the Washington Zionist District, addressed a Sabbath eve dinner tonight.
