An unusual situation was created here today when a body of religious functionaries decided to join the Polish Socialist Party.
This action was taken by the “mohelim,” the men who perform the rite of circumcision required by Jewish law, on the ground that their appeals to the rabbinate to secure a livelihood for them had brought no results.
The religious functionaries had complained to the rabbis that two mohelim monopolized the birth clinics in Warsaw and the richer clients while the others were starving. Because the rabbinate has taken no action in their behalf, they expressed the belief that the Socialist Party would fight for them as proletarians when they joined the Socialist ranks.
