Arturo Toscanini was made an “honorary colonist” of Palestine today when a part of a German Jewish orange plantation was presented to him, and the noted conductor announced that he intended to return to the Holy Land this year.
The presentation was made in a ceremony at the settlement of Ramath Hashovim as the gift of the Palestine Musical Society. M. Rosenhoff, president of the settlement, greeted Toscanini on becoming one of Palestine’s new colonists.
The maestro recently conducted the three opening concerts of the Palestine Symphony Orchestra of musicians in exile from Nazi Germany and is scheduled to take the group this week to Egypt for performances in Cairo and Alexandria.
