Thirty-five per cent of quota immigration certificates issued during the fiscal year 1936 were granted to persons under the German quota of 25,597, according to a State Department report. The number issued to Germans was 6,978 of the total of 20,184 quota visas.
The total of 20,184 was an 87 per cent under-issue of the total quotas allowable of 153,774. The number of applicants examined for visas was 77,537 as compared with 75,240 in 1935. The registered demand at consular offices for quota immigration visas on June 30, 1936, amounted to 248, 221, of which 48 per cent were chargeable to the German and Polish quotas.
