The first sign of general dissatisfaction with the law limiting practice of shechita, Jewish ritual method of slaughtering animals, appeared today in the township of Slupianovo.

Polish officials of the town, accompanied by a Christian butcher and a rabbi, appeared in a body before the Government of Kielce district and asked him to restore the practice in their township.

The request was motivated by the loss to the city government of a substantial part of its income as a result of the local abbatoir’s shutdown since the shechita curb went into effect on Jan. 1.

Jews of the Kielce district are entirely without kosher meat, it was reported here, since not single license has been thus far issued to butchers there.
