The work of Jewish charities in the effort to “make the world a better place to live in” was praised by Welfare Commissioner Hodson, speaking in place of Mayor LaGuardia yesterday to 450 members of the council of fraternal and benevolent organizations of the Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies.
Solomon Lowenstein, executive vice-president, spoke in favor of publicly operated hospitals, declaring that with the cessation of immigration and the assimilation of foreign-born Jews into American society, the need for private hospitals no longer existed.
