New York Bank Seeks Release of Arnold Bernstein

Leonard Ingram, director of the London branch of the Chemical Bank and Trust Co. of New York, left here for Hamburg today to intervene with authorities there in an attempt to secure freedom for Arnold Bernstein, Red Star Line shipping magnate arrested recently for illegal stock activities, the Havas News Agency reported.

Bernstein’s arrest was only announced officially by police authorities today, the Deutsches Nachrichten Bureau reporting that Bernstein and two business associates had been placed under “preventive arrest.
