A word from the Pope in Rome would be sufficient to end persecution of Jews in predominantly-Catholic Poland, according to Prof. Paul H. Douglas, of Chicago University. Accordingly he has advised an appeal to the Vatican.
Addressing a conference on the situation of the Jews in Poland called by the Chicago division of the American Jewish Congress, the Federation of Polish Jews and other organizations, Prof. Douglas also counseled appeals to individuals governments to intervene in behalf of the Polish Jews. Recalling the action taken by the United States in connection with the Kishineff pogrom of 1905, he said: “What America did in 1905 our present administration can certainly do in 1937.
