President Eduard Benes today received Dr. Hugo Bergmann, rector of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, who is en route to the United States, and Parliament Deputy Angelo Goldstein for an hour.
He expressed interest in developments at the university and showed understanding of the Palestine situation. The President promised to convey the Palestine Jewish community’s greetings to former President Thomas Masaryk.
Discussing with Mr. Goldstein the question of the Jewish minority in Czechoslovakia, Dr. Benes promised to support demands for safeguarding of minority rights.
Dr. Bergmann will arrive in New York March 22 on the Queen Mary.
