Appropriations totalling $575,000 for the first quarter of 1937 for the relief of Jews in Germany, Poland and other European countries were announced today by the Joint Distribution Committee. They were made in advance of collections in the $4,650,000 campaign, said Joseph G. Hyman, executive director. In the three months ending March 31 the J.D.C. will have spent approximately $270,000 to aid Jews in Germany and refugee countries, and an equal sum for Eastern Europe, chiefly Poland and Rumania. The German allocation includes $100,000 to be spent in the Reich and $75,000 in refugee countries.
