Franz Werfel, newly honored with the Highest Austrian Order for Arts and Sciences, announced to the press today he would shortly complete a new novel dealing with a biblical subject. He is the author of “The Eternal Road,” now running in New York.
The order was conferred on the author and playwright by Chancellor Kurt Schuschnigg at a reception given by the chancellor. State Secretary Pernter, Director of the Burg Theatre praised Mr. Werfel for enhancing the reputation of Austria as a country where art and literature were highly developed.
