Five Jews, including a young woman, were freed, under pledge to maintain good behavior, in Thames Police Court today following their arrest in Whitechapel last night during disturbances which resulted from a parade of 100 Fascists.
The Fascists, parading through the East End, hurled flaming torches into Jewish shops. Later, the Fascists clashed with Communists and several persons were injured. Police reinforcements restored order.
In court today, the defendants, accused of using insulting words and behavior during the torchlight procession, said they had seen a commotion and merely went over to see what was happening. The magistrate told the young woman she had acted foolishly and bound her over for twelve months.
