Dr. Hugo Bergmann, rector of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, proposed today the creation of a “ministry of education” to coordinate the work of Jewish institutions throughout the world.
Addressing students of the Graduate School for Jewish Social Work, Dr. Bergmann deplored the disunity of Jewish educational institutions and the fact that “we are working everyone in his own corner.” Afterward, he explained to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that such a ministry should be created at a world congress of Jewish schools and would have among its functions the drawing up of uniform curricula, planning for publications and translations, and arranging for exchange of students and instructors.
Felix M. Warburg reported on his recent visit to Europe. He praised the cooperation of Jewish relief organizations and said a committee was being created to harmonize the work of Jewish settlement and relief bodies in various parts of the world. He stressed the necessity of education for Jewish leadership. Dr. Maurice J. Karpf, director of the school, presided.
