The Agudath Israel, orthodox organization, today sent an appeal to Jews in the United States, England and elsewhere to observe a fast day in protest against anti-Semitism in various countries as new disorders were reported from various parts of Poland.
Seven Jews were attacked in Janow, near Pinsk and one of them, Mordecai Desdetsky, seriously injured. Police restored order, making two arrests.
Shlomo Eisenberg, chairman of the local Zionist Organization, and a social worker named Festig were arrested in Kamien-Koszyrski on charges of spreading “alarming reports about the security of the Jews” following disorders in the town in which two Jewish traders, Efraim Weibardt and Joseph Weissman, were seriously injured. Eisenberg was beaten by unidentified persons before his arrest.
Meanwhile, Wilhelm Ryppel, a right-wing Zionist lawyer scheduled to go on trial yesterday for leading an abortive “march of despair” to Palestine last fall, said in a statement:
“I wanted with all my strength to take out of Poland all the unfortunate Jewish youths to save them from suffering the experiences of Przytyk, Minsk-Mazowiec and the unparalleled excesses of Brzesc.”
Ryppel’s trial was postponed pending collection of new evidence.
