Latest estimates place the number of refugees from Germany at present in European countries at approximately 35,500, according to a report of the Distribution Committee made public today. Of this number about 29,000 are Jewish and 6,500 “Aryan” or “non-Aryan” Christians. According to the Nazi interpretation all Germans with one Jewish grandparent are considered “non-Aryan.”
The J.D.C. is also informed that about 100,000 Jews in Germany, of the less than 400,000 total Jewish population, are jobless and in need of aid. Owing to the continued emigration of those able to support Jewish community enterprises in Germany and the exclusion of Jews from jobs and professions, the situation of those remaining is rapidly becoming worse, the report states.
