The British Government plans to propose attaching the mountainous regions of Palestine to the domain of the Emir Abdullah of Transjordan at the next meeting of the League of Nations Mandates Commission on July 18, Genevieve Tabouis reported in L’Oouvre today, according to the Havas News Agency.
According to Mmo. Tabouis the Royal Commission has suggested dividing Palestine between the Arabs–who would receive the mountainous territories and would be under the rule of the Emir–and the Jews, who would get the plains.
The League, said Mme. Tabouis, would keep its mandate over Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and part of the port of Haifa. This scheme, the commentator added, would permit both the now Arab kingdom and the new Jewish republic in Palestine to enter the League at a later date.
