A statement signed by 50 non-Jewish religious and educational leaders addressed to the Polish Government condemning persecutions of the Jews was made public today by the American Jewish Congress.

The statement charged a return “to the barbarism of the Middle Ages in respect to their Jewish population” and warned that “the policies pursued by the present authorities in Poland spell not only the doom of the Jews but will destroy the place of the Polish Republic in the circle of civilized nations.”

The statement will be presented Thursday night to 2,000 delegates of many Jewish organizations meeting at the Hotel Astor to devise a program in defense of the Polish Jews. Speakers will include Francis Biddle, Dr. Harry F. Ward, Dr. Stephen S. Wise, Dr. Samuel Margoshes and Jacob Fishman.

The congress has decided to exclude Communist groups from the meeting.
